BOPP – biaxially oriented polypropylene film (or biaxially oriented) is made from polypropylene by extrusion. The stretching of polymer molecules along two axes contributes to high mechanical strength and elasticity. Transparent BOPP film can be single-layer ("monofilm" or "flower film"), without heat sealable layers, and three-layer (with two heat sealable layers). Single-layer is used for gift wrapping, for decorating flower bouquets and in the manufacture of adhesive tape. Three-layer is the most popular material for packaging in the food, medical, and cosmetic industries.
This type of film is characterized by a matte surface, its gloss is somewhat muffled. This can give the product individuality, exclusivity and noble appearance.
Includes special additives that give the reflected light a characteristic pearlescent sheen. On this material you can get a very beautiful print.
Metallized film is especially suitable for applications where products need to be protected from UV radiation and sunlight. It also has high barrier properties to water vapor and oxygen.
It has two heat sealable layers. The color is initially white, so no white paint primer is needed as a backing. This film is not transparent, and printing on white is brighter than on transparent films. The main feature of the white film – the ability to completely reflect light.
This is "unoriented" polypropylene film. It is manufactured by flat slot extrusion. And, although it is less elastic due to the lack of orientation of the polymer molecules, it has much greater puncture resistance and weld strength. Puncture resistance allows hot baked goods to be perforated to allow them to "breathe".
Multilayer films are produced in two ways: co-extrusion and lamination. With co-extrusion, the film is obtained by extrusion from granules of different polymers, with lamination – by bonding two or more layers. The combination of several materials allows to achieve unique technical characteristics. Lamination – more expensive production than co-extrusion, but it allows you to apply interlayer, and therefore more stable printing.
